Police who arrested a Kent man under the Terrorism Act have been searching two kebab shops in the county.

Forensic officers were at the Dolphin Fish and Kebab shop in Dover town centre for several hours on Tuesday.

Countryside Kebab in Aylesham, near Canterbury, was also scoured on Monday night. Two police vans were outside the premises and the shutters were down.

Police confirmed the searches were both connected with Monday's arrest in Hawkinge, near Folkestone - but no other details have yet been released.

A man remained in custody on Tuesday after officers swooped on him as he drove along Spitfire Way towards Folkestone shortly after 8am Monday.

Later officers carried out forensic investigations at a house in the village.

A police spokesman said the man was being held on suspicion of "being engaged in the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism".

The car stopped in Spitfire Way remained there for several hours, guarded by officers in a police car.

Meanwhile, less than kilometre away in Curlew Place, scenes of crime officers in white suits and surgical masks carried out investigations on a house and a car.

The red-brick detached house had net curtains at the windows. A back garden could be seen through the open door of the integral garage. A grey Vauxhall Corsa was being examined by officers.

Some of the largest five-bedroomed houses in the quiet suburb are up for sale for about £350,000.
