Amjad Khan sat out the LV= County Championship Division 1 game against Essex this week, knowing it might be his only week off this summer.

The 29-year-old paceman’s absence at Chelmsford suggested he had been dropped or suffered another injury but he was happy to confirm neither was true.

He said: "I have bowled nearly 140 overs already and we are only just over a month into the new season. We have Makhaya Ntini with us at the moment and the county felt it was the ideal chance to make the the most of it.

"In fact, they wanted me to rest completely but have agreed that I would come into the ground and do a few training sessions. It’s a luxury we might not have for the rest of the season. I’m an impact bowler and need to stay fresh otherwise my strengths go out of the window."

Khan believes he is as fit now than at anytime having undergone reconstructive knee surgery in 2007 which forced him to miss the whole summer, and then being forced home from the trip to the West Indies last year.

He said: "It’s the first time that I have hit a pre-season running without injuries."

Will Kent benefit from a rested Amjad Khan? Will he get back into the team? Have your say below.
