Paul Farbrace insists Kent can still qualify for the final stages of this year’s Friends Provident t20 – even though they are second from bottom of the South Group.

Team director Farbrace feels that the Spitfires kept their slim chances alive with Sunday’s superb 27-run victory at leaders Sussex, saying: "I reckon that five wins from our remaining six matches will be enough (to qualify).

"If you look at the matches we have got left then we are quite capable of doing that, especially if we keep playing like we did on Sunday.

"We definitely won’t be throwing in the towel and, anyway, it’s all about getting that winning mentality before we resume our championship programme next week."

Kent play their first LV= County Championship game for nearly a month when they take on Hampshire at The Rose Bowl, starting on Monday, but before that they have two t20 matches at St Lawrence over the weekend.

They meet Hampshire Royals on Friday with a 5.30pm start, and then take on Gloucestershire Gladiators on Sunday (3pm).
