Killed while out delivering Christmas cards

A driver has been arrested on suspicion of killing a woman out delivering her Christmas cards, police revealed today.

Sixty-four-year-old Elizabeth Tanner died last Friday after she was hit by a car in Canterbury.

She lived in the city and was master’s assistant at Keynes College at the University of Kent.

Officers have renewed an appeal for witnesses following the collision in The Terrace at 4.30pm.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "It is believed that Mrs Tanner had parked her car and got out to deliver Christmas cards when she was hit by a passing silver Vauxhall Corsa.

"Emergency services attended the scene, including officers from the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit."

A 20-year-old woman, from Canterbury, was arrested on Friday evening on suspicion of causing death by dangerous or reckless driving.

She has been released on bail pending further police investigation.
