Lisa Dobriskey says completing a miraculous comeback from injury to earn a place at the Olympics means more to her than anything she’s done in athletics.

On Tuesday afternoon the Ashford AC ace was chosen as one of three members of Team GB for the 1,500m which gets underway in the Olympic Stadium on August 6.

The day began with a tough training session at the New Romney athlete’s new base in Loughbourough before an encounter with the Olympic Torch as it winds it way around the country ahead of the Opening Ceremony on July 27.

The 28-year-old said: "It was just a perfect moment, having it there. I’d got the call that morning and I had to rush off to London for the announcement. It was special.

"I kind of thought I’d done enough to get in, but I wouldn’t say I was confident.

"You never know with the selectors and what they’ve got in their heads. There is always an element of doubt."

She revealed: "We were told to expect a call on the Monday night but the selection meeting went on for so long that it was not until the Tuesday morning that we heard."

The 2006 Commonwealth Games gold-medallist and 2009 World Championsip runner-up said: "It means more to be going to London than anything else I have done.

"It’s always an honour to pull on a British vest, but to do it on home soil, and after the year I’ve had, it’s going to mean everything.

"There were times when I thought I wouldn’t get there and it was devastating having to deal with that thought.

"If I hadn’t made it I would have had to go as far away as possible, the other side of the world... I would not have been able to embrace the Olympics and live through it as a spectator."
