NARROW ESCAPE: The scene today after the lorry crashed

A FRIGHTENED family is demanding action after a lorry careered off one of Kent's most notorious roads today and smashed into their wall for the third time in two years.

In the latest incident, a lorry travelling on the A228 from Thamesport on the Isle of Grain lost control on Fenn Corner and crashed through the garden wall. It stopped just metres away from the secluded property in St Mary Hoo.

The lorry driver was taken to hospital for what are thought to be minor injuries. The killer A228 has claimed more than 20 lives in 18 years.

Faye and George Murison were awoken by the sound of the crash just before 4am this morning. Mrs Murison said: "We heard a huge great bang and the whole house shuddered. We couldn't believe it had happened again because the wall was fixed only last week after the last incident in May.

"The whole thing makes you feel quite ill. The house is blighted and we will never be able to sell," added Mrs Murison, 58.

"We have been in touch with the council and each time they say something will be done, but now we want to know exactly what they are going to do."

A Medway Council spokesperson said: "The council is working towards installing a roundabout at Fenn Corner. We, of course, listen to residents' worries and are doing what we can. However it does not matter how much we work to improve safety on Medway's roads, we need the support of drivers to ensure that our roads stay safe."
