Firefighters spent more than four hours tackling a lorry blaze on the A249.

Around 20 tonnes of hay caught alight on a trailer on the Maidstone-bound carriageway close to the Kent Showground at Detling last night.

Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called at just before 11.30pm.

One carriageway of the A249 and the Stockbury roundabout were closed while firefighters brough the blaze under control.

They were at the scene until about 3.30am.
