A MAN from a Kent city has been slapped with an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) for kerb crawling.

Medway Magistrates Court issued the order to John Steel, 57, from Iden Road, Rochester.

Under the terms of the order, Steel is prohibited within Medway from acting in an anti-social manner, which caused or was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons not of the same household as himself, entering various roads and engaging in any sexual or indecent act in a public place.

PC John Harding said: "I am confident that this ASBO, which is the first of its kind in Medway, will send a message to others that we take this sort of crime seriously."

Community Support Officer, Ann Lillington said: "John Steel was invited to sign an Acceptable Behaviour Agreement prior to this order, but he decided not to sign.

"If he decides to break the ASBO, he could be liable on conviction for a prison sentence of a maximum of five years."
