A Kent man arrested after a protest by members of the English Defence League in Essex yesterday has been released on bail.

The 35-year-old from Rochester was held on suspicion of committing a racially aggravated public order offence at the demonstration in Chelmsford.

He is due to answer bail at an Essex police station on September 9.

The man was one of three arrested at the protest, which was attended by around 30 people.

A police spokesman said the force was given no prior notice of the demonstration, and added it was contained within two hours.

A 19-year-old man from Dagenham, Essex, and an 18-year-old man from Yateley, Hampshire were also arrested.
