A 24-year-old man suffered head wounds after being cut with a broken bottle.

At first it was thought the victim had been attacked while was sitting drinking outside a parade of shops in Ordnance Street in Chatham.

But later a spokesman for Medway Police said the man had told them he had fallen on the bottle himself. Police said they were unsure if their investigations would be continuing.

The victim was taken to Gillingham's Meway Maritime Hospital but later discharged himself.
