Man seriously hurt after bridge jump

A man is in hospital with serious injuries after jumping off the M2 bridge at Rochester.

The incident happened just before 7pm on Monday evening.

Witnesses said the man drove his car across the bridge, pulled over, got out of his vehicle, climbed over the barrier and jumped.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital by paramedics.

A police helicopter hovered over the bridge and coastguards and paramedics arrived on the scene.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: “We were called to reports of someone having jumped from the bridge on the M2, between junctions two and three, at 6.53pm, close to the cinema.

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries but they are not thought to be life-threatening.”
