Police have revealed a man assaulted outside a McDonald’s in Strood is now in a stable condition.

Detectives say the man, who is 21 and from the Rochester area, was punched to the ground by a man walking in the opposite direction.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and say the attack happened at about 11.50pm on Wednesday.

The victim was walking along Commercial Road from the direction of Strood High Street when he was punched to the ground by a man who was walking with a another man in the opposite direction.

He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital and it was initially thought he was discharged just after 2am on Thursday.

However, police have now confirmed he has been transfered to St Mary's Hospital, in Paddington.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: "The offender is described as 23, white, 5ft 5in, of a stocky build with cropped blond hair and tanned skin.

"He was wearing a dark blue crewneck jumper, beige knee-length chinos and white trainers.

"His companion was also about 23, white, slim build, 6ft with dark brown short spiky hair.

"He was wearing a white shirt with a dark pattern on and dark trousers.

"Both men ran off towards Strood High Street."
