It seems Margate isn’t the place to have fun in the sun this summer - if you are female, that is.

Thousands of women voted the Main Sands the worst beach in the UK for finding sexy men on holiday in a survey by More magazine, while Newquay, Brighton and Bournemouth came out tops.

But fitness fanatics Gareth Carter, 26, Neil Hooker, 25, Mat Roderick, 20, and Matt Finch, 29 - who work at Bannatyne’s health club at Westwood Cross - leapt to the town’s defence and proved that the ladies shouldn’t abandon hope just yet.

General manager Paul Bew said: “Gareth practices what he preaches and lives a healthy lifestyle mixing exercise, good diet and relaxation.

“Neil, Mat and Matt regularly use the club’s outdoor heated swimming pool to keep them in shape as well as leading some of 90 group exercise classes Bannatyne’s offers every week."

The poll, by More magazine, ranked England as the top destination for striking up a holiday romance, beating the likes of Majorca and Ibiza.
