Gillingham boss Martin Allen hopes to have seen the back of the stomach bug that hit his squad in the build-up to last weekend’s game.

Charlie Allen and keeper Stuart Nelson were among those suffering, along with the manager.

The players were given Monday off to try and keep the bug at bay, although some were still reporting in ill when they returned on Tuesday.

"There are a couple of players laid low with the bug, which is why all the players were given Monday off to keep them away from each other," said Allen.

But the manager will have no worries about selecting Charlie Allen again. He was hit hard last week and went straight in to see the doctor after 90 minutes against Aldershot.

"He is fine now," said the Gills boss, who had considered taking his son off and leaving the side down to 10 men – having already used his three substitutes.

"He was exhausted with 10-15 minutes to go. I didn’t take him off because if I did that, it would be disrespectful to the opposition."
