Employment minister Stephen Timms visited Medway today to learn about a scheme which has helped more than 100 people find jobs.

Mr Timms visited the church hall in Chatham where Project Re-Ignite is helping another 538 people in some of the most deprived areas of the Towns to get back to work.

More than £500,000 of council, government and European cash is being spent to helping local residents to get jobs - and stay in work.

Clem Smith, social regeneration manager at Medway Council, said: "As well as getting 102 people into jobs by the end of last week there are 30 people a week getting the right qualifications for the jobs."

Whitehall are considering extending the scheme to towns and cities across the UK.
