A former mod scootered 130 miles in freezing weather to join an advert for an iconic chocolate bar’s revival.

Larry Bowyer, of Charing, travelled to and from Alexandra Palace in north London to take part in a TV commercial for the Wispa bar.

He is one of a total 300 colourful characters, such as cheerleaders and stilt walkers, appearing in the commercial, which will be transmitted on ITV on a one-off day, Saturday December 20.

It will be shown on YouTube afterwards.

Mr Bowyer, 56, of Ruglys Way, said: "We were there from 6am to 11pm. It was a long day and it was freezing travelling there and back.

"But it was a very enjoyable and worthwhile."

Mr Bowyer, a mod during the cult’s heyday in 1964, travelled to London on a 40-year-old Lambretta.

The commercial was for the campaign For the Love of Wispa to celebrate the Cadbury’s product’s return to the shops following an internet campaign.

The distinctive ad also features 10 other scooter riders plus belly dancers, hoola-hoopers, Irish dancers, a barbershop quartet, jugglers, a hovercraft and an open-top bus.

Wispa, launched in 1981, became an icon of the Eighties but went out of production by 2003.

It returned periodically after that and returned fully in October following a highly successful Facebook-led consumer crusade.
