Motorcyclist wins £3 million compensation after crash

A motorcyclist terribly injured in a road crash six years ago has won £3.2 million compensation in London's High Court.

Neil Payne suffered head and massive orthopaedic injuries when knocked off his motorcycle in Holmesdale Close, Linton, on March 27, 2002.

His injuries included multiple fractures to his pelvis and both legs, together with spinal fractures. His head injuries also left him with impaired memory and concentration, while he needs a wheelchair for even the shortest journeys.

The 39-year-old former removals man's case reached the High Court as top judge, Mrs Justice Dobbs, approved a £3.2 million settlement of his case on the basis of 87.5 per cent liability.

Through his barrister, Christopher Barnes, Mr Payne, of Coombe Close, Snodland, had claimed damages from the motorist whose car struck him, John Noakes, of Holmsdale Close, Linton.

The judge gave the green light to the deal, which she declared to be in Mr Payne's best interests. She extended her best wishes to his family, adding that "the past six years must have been pretty challenging" for them.

"I hope this settlement makes things easier for them," the judge concluded. Mr Payne was not in court for the hearing.
