A MISSING elderly woman and her daughter were last seen at their home in Beckenham two months ago, detectives have revealed.

Celia Harvey, 88, has missed both the birthday of her son, Martin, and her 21-year-old grandson, Michael, who live in Chingford, Essex.

She and her daughter, Mary Harvey, went missing from their home, in Palm Court, Croydon Road, sometime between January 17, and February 21, when Martin Harvey called to check on them after he had not heard from them on his birthday three days earlier.

The family said they were frantic with worry for their safety. Mr Harvey, who last saw his mother and sister before Christmas, said: "I am worried. I just hope they’re al; right. We’ve still got the Christmas presents here which we bougth for them. Michael is the apple of my mother’s eye, there’s no way she would have missed his birthday." He said that Mary, 54, had suffered from depression.

Celia had sent his grandson a birthday card towards the end of January but did not respond to a card from his wife at the beginning of February.

Det Sgt Tony Duffee, of Bromley CID, said: "The last time they were heard about was late on January 17. Celia’s son went to visit them on February 21 and didn’t get any response. He went back every day and then reported it on the 25th."

Detectives have not ruled out the possibility that the two women may have travelled to Scotland where other relatives live. They are planning to search for any traces of cash withdrawals or payments by the missing women once they have authorisation.

Det Sgt Duffee said: "We are concerned for both Celia and Mary as they have been missing for some time and have not made contact with family or friends. In particular, Celia takes regular medication without which she is vulnerable. I would appeal to anyone who has either seen Celia or Mary or anyone who has any information regarding their whereabouts to contact me at Bromley police station."

Celia is described as a frail white woman who walks with the aid of a stick. She is 4ft11 and of medium build. Her hair is a mixture of grey and brown and worn behind the ears. She has a pale complexion and always wears glasses. Celia is also known to wear a sheepskin hat when she goes outdoors. She has severe arthritis in both hands.

Mary is white with short black hair. She is approximately 5ft2, has a pale complexion and wears horn rim glasses. She is of thin build and walks with a stoop.

The two women have relatives in Chingford and Edinburgh.

Anyone with information regarding Celia or Mary are asked to contact Det Sgt Duffee on 020 8284 8785 or Crimestoppers free and anonymously on 0800 555111.
