Herne Bay chairman Trevor Kennett says contract talks are "ongoing" with boss Simon Halsey about a new three-year deal.

Halsey (pictured) has spoken before about wanting either a one or two-year deal but Mr Kennett has now revealed for the first time that he wants to secure the Winch’s Field boss’ services even longer.

The pair spoke during the club’s five-day trip to Magaluf last weekend, and Mr Kennett said: "Simon has done well and we would like to keep him on a long-term basis.

"We had a number of chats about things while we were away and both of us want to sort it out before pre-season gets under way."

Halsey added: "Whether it’s two years or three, I am ready to sign it. I am waiting to see a draft copy and check over the details."

The Bay manager is still waiting to appoint a new No.2 after seemingly being close to making an appointment a couple of weeks ago but the telephone call he was expecting never came.

Halsey said: "The person concerned chose to go elsewhere. Three or four other people have applied and I am hoping to see them this week."
