Happy New Year from people and attractions across Kent

Whether you were out on the town or at home in front of the Hootenanny, chances are you spent last night marking the end of 2018.

Firework displays, laser shows and parties took place across the county and the emergency services were working hard behind the scenes to help make sure revellers returned home safe.

Many of Kent's best-known figures and attractions also took the opportunity to wish their fans and followers a happy New Year.

Tonbridge and Malling MP Tom Tugenhadt is among those who took time to thank the emergency services and others for their hard work this time of year.

The ambulance service in Kent dealt with a huge number of incidents over the festive period - and received a staggering 200 calls an hour on New Year's Eve.

Mr Tugenhadt wrote on Twitter yesterday: "Thank you to all working tonight to keep us safe - the police, medics, military, intelligence and diplomats on duty at home and around the world."

Wingham Wildlife Park had a punny take on their festive greeting, with an adorable picture of an unimpressed-looking gibbon.

The Big Cat Sanctuary, based in Ashford, spread New Year joy with another animal snap - this time of Maya the jaguar.

The Turner Contemporary in Margate took the New Year as an opportunity to share news of its art exhibitions coming up in 2019.

Huge crowds gathered to watch the New Year laser show at Ramsgate harbour, which saw the whole area illuminated by a spectacular display of lights.

Ashford MP Damian Green appeared to be spending a quiet evening in last night, as he shared a New Year message to his Twitter folloers from in front of the TV.

MP Craig Mackinlay, meanwhile, wished his South Thanet constituent well with a photo of some celebratory fireworks.
