No final decision yet on school closure

KENT County Council has poured cold water on reports that Milsted and Frinsted School near Sittingbourne has been saved from closure.

Teachers and governors at the school in Milsted have been rejoicing this week, believing their school was definitely saved.

But KCC spokeswoman Jackie Marks said nothing had been finalised: "We are exploring many other options than closure and discussions are underway regarding making Bredgar (Primary) School, a support school for Milsted and Frinsted.

"The public consultation has been differed but no decision has been made. I don't want to say absolutely there will be no closure before it is announced."

But those comments did not dampen spirits at the school where everyone is convinced the future looks promising.

The chairman of the governors, Claire Blackbrow, said: "I think they (KCC) are trying to play it down until we talk to parents.

"But I am sure this is going forward. I am absolutely delighted. This is something we have been working towards."
