A DRUG supplier was murdered after two addicts turned on him and knifed him in the street, a court heard.

Alistair Maddison and Stevie-Anne Stacey had gone to meet Trevor Brown and Alan Sykes in the early hours to hand over crack cocaine.

But Maidstone Crown Court was told that Sykes held a knife to Miss Stacey’s throat so that she spat out “rocks” of the drug.

She fled from the scene and looked back to see Sykes and Brown attacking 31-year-old Mr Maddison, it was alleged.

Philip St John-Stevens, prosecuting, said a knife penetrated a main artery and Mr Maddison was left bleeding and dying in the road.

Brown, 39, and 25-year-old Sykes, he said, were blaming each other for the victim’s death.

Mr Maddison had on March 29 last year been at his home in Mills Terrace, Chatham, with his girlfriend Sarah Thompson, Miss Stacey, Maureen Spragg and others. All were heroin users.

Mr St John-Stevens said that at about 3.30am the next day, Miss Spragg took a phone call from Brown asking for two of white (crack cocaine) and two of brown (heroin).

She agreed to supply the drugs, which had a street value of £80. She told Brown to go to a location in Chatham's Magpie Hall Road.

Miss Spragg was going to deliver the drugs with Miss Stacey, but she changed her mind. She asked Mr Maddison to go with Miss Stacey.

Mr Maddison was promised drugs in return. Before leaving, he put a kitchen knife in his trousers.

After the four met, Miss Stacey turned to take one of the rocks out of her mouth. Sykes then put a knife to her throat and told her to spit out the drugs. She did so and as Sykes bent down to pick them up, she ran off.

“As she turned, she saw Mr Maddison being attacked by both defendants,” said the prosecutor. “She describes each defendant moving his arm backwards and forwards.

“She describes Mr Sykes as doing a stabbing movement and Mr Brown coming in at an angle. Alistair Maddison immediately fell to the ground.”

Brown, of Brookmead Road, Cliffe, near Strood and Sykes, of Johnson Avenue, Gillingham, deny murder. Sykes admits robbing Miss Stacey.

The trial continues.
