Planned roadworks on motorways and other roads in Kent next week

Motorists travelling around the county over the next week need to know about the planned roadworks that could disrupt their journeys.

The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of today, but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

These roadworks are the weekly summary for Monday, March 4 and Sunday, March 10.

M2 junction 1 to 3 Medway: bridge works

Work to improve safety continues this week on the M2 by undertaking bridge joint replacements.

On Monday, March 4, there will be a full eastbound carriageway closure between junction 3 and junction 1 for five nights between 8pm and 6am.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A229, M20 and A228.

M20 junction 3 to 5, Maidstone: Smart Motorways

Work to improve journeys continues this week on the M20 between junction 3 and 5.

There are currently narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 50mph in place 24/7.

On Monday, March 4, there will be a full closure of the westbound exit slip road at junction 4 and a full closure of the M20 eastbound entry slip road at junction 4 for five nights between 8pm and 6am.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the next available junction.

Free recovery service and speed enforcement remain in place to ensure drivers and road workers safety.

M20 junction 9 to 7: road surface repairs

Work to improve journeys continues this week on the M20.

From Monday, March 4 there will be a full M20 westbound carriageway closure from junction 9 to junction 7 from 8pm to 6am for five nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20.

M20 junction 9 to 11: junction 10a construction

Work to improve the network continues this week on the M20.

There are currently 24-hour lane closures and 50mph speed restriction in place in both directions between junction 9 and 11.

This will remain in place until January 2020.

In addition on Saturday, March 9 there will be a full carriageway closure eastbound between junction 9 and 11 overnight from 8pm to 10 am on Sunday, March 10.

M20 junction 2 Wrotham to junction 3 (M26): smart motorway improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve journey times continues this week with narrow lanes and 50mph speed limit in place on both carriageways, with a free recovery service operating 24-hours a day.

M20 junction 2 Wrotham: drainage work

Work to maintain road user safety by carrying out drainage maintenance will continue this week.

The westbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Wednesday, March 6 for five nights.

Work on Friday, March 8 will start at 11pm.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A20 to M26 junction 2a, M26 eastbound, M20 eastbound, M20 junction 4 and return.

A2 Guston, Dover: resurfacing

Work to improve journeys begins this week on the A2 by undertaking resurfacing of Duke of York roundabout.

On Monday, March 4 there will be a full closure of the eastbound carriageway from Honeywood to the Port of Dover for two nights between 8pm and 6am.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A229 or A249, M20 and A20.

A21 Sevenoaks: bridge works

Works to improve network safety take place this week on the A21 by undertaking bridge inspections.

On Tuesday, March 5 there will be a full closure of the eastbound carriageway between Morley’s roundabout and Vauxhall roundabout overnight between 8pm and 6am.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via Morley’s roundabout South on B245, A227 and A2014

A21 Tonbridge: weakened structure

For the safety of road users there is currently a 50mph speed restriction, and a weight restriction between Philpots Lane overbridge and the junction of London Road A26 in both directions of the A21.

A2070 Ashford: Junction 10a construction

Work to improve the network continues this week on the A2070.

There is currently a contraflow with 40 mph speed restriction in place between The Boulevard and the M20 junction 10.

M25 junction 2 (A2): surfacing

Work to improve journeys by surfacing the carriageway will start this week.

The anti-clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Friday, March 8, three nights.

A clearly signed diversion for will be in place via the A282 junction 1a and return.

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety will start this week.

The clockwise carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, from Monday, March 4 for seven nights.

Work on Friday, March 8, will start at 11pm.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the M25 southbound, A21 southbound, A25 westbound, A21/A25 interchange, M25 northbound, M25 clockwise.

A2 (M25), Dartford: junction improvement

Work to reduce congestion and improve safety as part of the Junction Improvement Programme will continue this week.

The eastbound carriageway will have narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit in place 24-hours a day.

A20 Swanley: surfacing

Work to improve journeys by surfacing the carriageway will start this week.

The eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5:30am, from Thursday, March 7, for two nights.

Work on Friday, March 8, will start at 11pm.

A clearly signed diversion for will be in place via Crittall’s corner, A223, B2173, M20 junction 1.

A282 (M25) junction 1a Swanscombe: tunnel maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out tunnel maintenance will continue this week.

The northbound entry slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5am, on Saturday, March 9.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 1b and return.

A282 (M25) junction 1b Dartford: lining the carriageway

Work to maintain safety by lining the carriageway will start this week.

The south half part of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5:30am, from Monday, March 4, for two nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2, A2 westbound, A2018, B2174 Princess Road.

The clockwise exit slip road will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday 6 March for two nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.

The north half part of the roundabout will be closed overnight, between 10pm and 5.30am, from Wednesday, March 6 for two nights.

A clearly signed diversion will be in place via junction 2 and return.

A282 (M25) Dartford – Thurrock Crossing: routine maintenance

Work to maintain safety by carrying out routine maintenance at the Dartford Crossing continues this week.

The following closures will be in place overnight, between 8.30pm and 5.30am, with fully signed diversions in place during the northbound east tunnel closures for oversized vehicles.
