Seven suspected illegal immigrants were found huddled in a French-registered lorry carrying apples near Sittingbourne today.

It is believed the four men and three women come from Iraq.

They were arrested near the Bobbing Apple restaurant, off the old Sheppey Way, near the A249, and put into police custody, awaiting the arrival of the Immigration Service.

A police spokesman said: "The lorry driver raised the alarm because he heard noises coming from his trailer.
