Police step up hunt for killer driver

Victim: Shirley Leedham
Victim: Shirley Leedham

The search for a driver who knocked down a Kent grandmother continued today exactly a week after she died.

Shirley Leedham, 70, was killed crossing the A20 at Harrietsham, near Maidstone, last Thursday at around 8.45am.

It prompted a huge police appeal for witness and police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from cameras near the scene. They hope to retrieve an image of the vehicle involved.

On Thursday morning, Mrs Leedham's widower John looked on as around 20 officers carried out a road check in the village.

Cars on both carriageways were pulled over in the hope someone will hold the vital clue which will lead police to the driver.
