Police warning after acid theft

TWO highly toxic barrels of acid have been stolen from a car salesroom in Gillingham.

Medway Police are warning people to be careful if they find the steel containers as the acids inside are highly corrosive and will burn the skin.

The steel barrels each held one gallon of acid and were stolen on Tuesday between 10.30pm and 11.45pm from the undisclosed premises.

The two containers had been locked in a tool shed, one held a gallon of hydrochloric acid and the second held sulphuric acid.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: “One of the tins has hydrochloric acid printed on the side of the tin, however, the tin that contains sulphuric acid has “wheel clean” printed on the container.

“Both products are made by Wac Products and are highly corrosive and will burn skin on contact.

“If anyone sees the containers they should contact the police immediately. Anyone who may have information in connection with this incident is asked to contact Medway Police on 01634 884252 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

All calls to Crimestoppers are free and are treated in the strictest of confidence.
