Pride In Medway - Maria Bradley

A Strood woman who bravely battled back from cancer has been nominated for a Pride in Medway award.

Maria Bradley of Rushdean Road, has been put forward in the courage category by her husband Peter.

"Maria was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in January 2007," he said.

"It was in her brain, bone, lung and liver and battled hard to stay alive throughout the year.

"However, after being told there was no more that could be done, Maria's scans at the end of 2007 showed a near complete recovery.

"She continues to get stronger and was even contacted by Deal or No Deal last week to discuss the possibility of her appearing on the show.

"Maria has shown immense strength and bravery in fighting her illness and that is why I am nominating her for the award.

"Her story could inspire others who are facing such an uphill struggle."

Maria said: I couldn't have got through it without the care of my husband. He deserves an award for what he did for me.

"I'd also like to thank the oncology units at Darenth Valley and Maidstone hospitals, and the Wisdom Hospice in Rochester who helped me to stay positive throughout it all."
