Pride In Medway 2009 - Kim Furlong and Ian Sears

A couple who have been described as pillars of their community have been nominated for a Pride in Medway Award.

Kim Furlong, 45, and Ian Sears, 51, have lived in Luton High Street, Chatham, for 26 years.

They have been put forward for a community involvement award by their neighbours Rob and Tracy Bradford, who live just a few doors away.

Tracy, 45, said: "Kim and Ian are such lovely people, they will do anything they can for you.

"You can knock on their door any time of the day or night if you have a problem and they will help you. Nothing is too much trouble.

"They do everything from running a neighbourhood watch scheme and a youth club, to checking on elderly residents and directing traffic when there has been an accident.

"They always know what is going on in the area and they have built up a good relationship with our local Police Community Support Officers.

"Kim and Ian always put the needs of their local community before their own. They deserve a small something in recognition for all their hard work.

"The community wouldn't be the same without them, we owe them a lifetime of thanks."

Nominations for the latest Pride in Medway awards have closed. Dozens of people have been put forward for awards, many with heart-warming or moving stories which will continue to be featured in the Medway Messenger over the coming weeks leading up to the presentations on March 20.
