Pride In Medway 2009 - Lynn James

Lollipop lady Lynn James, who always has a smile come rain or shine, has been nominated for a Pride in Medway award.

Lynn, 48, who has been helping children at Tunbury Primary School cross Robin Hood Lane, Walderslade, for more than 11 years, received 17 separate nominations for the community involvement category.

Jacqueline Chilmaid from Walderslade organised the nominations from parents of children at the school. She said: "Lynn always makes sure the children are safe, even if it means putting her own life at risk. She is a pillar of the community and always goes above and beyond the call of duty."

Hayley Lewis, a parent of a child at the school, said: "Lynn also works with the police and the local council to try and reduce the number of speeding motorists on Robin Hood Lane.

"She is petitioning the police to get speed cameras installed."

Another parent, Karen Martin, said: "Lynn is always there with a smile on her face, come rain or come shine. She deserves to be nominated because she risks her life to make it safer for others. Without her we would be lost."

Lynn, who lives in Blue Bell Hill village, said: "I'm flattered to have been nominated. The parents are lovely people and it's nice to watch the children grow.

"Parents often say they feel for me, working in all weathers, but it's all part of the job and I wouldn't change a thing."
