When she's not pulling pints, pub landlady Pauline Marriott dedicates her time to helping her local community.

The grandmother, who runs The Cannon in Garden Street, Brompton, has been nominated for a Pride in Medway award.

Pauline has been put forward for a community involvement award by pub regular Peter Holmes.

Mr Holmes, 68, of Conway Mews, Brompton, said: "Pauline has a very demanding job but she still finds the time to help others.

"She has done a lot of charity work for the Royal Engineers, so much so that she is a honorary member of the Sergeant's Mess.

"Pauline also spends a lot of time speaking to youngsters about the dangers of drink and this is a difficult message to get across, especially to the boys.

"Pauline does so much for the community and it all goes unsung."

Pauline was a long-serving volunteer at Woodlands Road Community Centre and speaks to pupils at schools all over Medway.

She has run The Cannon for 25 years and feels pubs should be very much part of the community. The Cannon sponsors local football team, Cannon 24, and still hosts traditional pub games.

Pauline said: "I have run The Cannon for 25 years. I love Medway, I was born here and I consider everyone in Medway as my family."

"I'm thrilled to be nominated for a Pride in Medway award, although it is quite a shock.

"I only do what I feel should be done but it is nice that someone has taken the time to put me forward for an award."
