Persistent showers on the final day meant Kent’s LV= County Championship match against Lancashire ended in a draw at Old Trafford.

Only 11.5 overs were played on Friday, before the game was abandoned at 3.45pm.

Kent, who were left on 45-2 chasing 285 to win, took seven points while Lancashire received nine.

Lancashire had batted first and were all out for a total of 320 which was built around an impressive 144-run fifth wicket stand between Ashwell Prince (115) and Steven Croft (93).

South African Makhaya Ntini took 3-46 on his debut for Kent, while there were four wickets for the in-form Darren Stevens (4-44).

Stevens then starred with the bat for Kent remaining unbeaten on 101 as the visitors made 213 all out.

Stevens’ century came off 127 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes, while Matt Coles weighed in with 33 late on.

Prince was again in fine form during Lancashire’s second innings with an unbeaten 71.

He was backed up by an unbeaten 52 from Mark Chilton as the home side declared on 177-3.

Kent lost the wickets of Joe Denly and Geraint Jones, before the rain ruined any chance of a result.
