A man practising yoga on a Margate beach in his pants was responsible for sparking a major search and rescue mission involving police, coastguard and lifeboat teams.

The huge search began in the early hours after two sets of men's clothes were found in Walpole Bay.

One pile of clothes was discovered at around 8.30pm Monday and the second was found around six hours later.

A man in his 40s approached bemused police officers at 11.30am this morning wearing only his boxer shorts, explaining he had taken two sets of clothes with him but had forgotten where he had left them.

Police dive teams from Sussex due to search the area this afternoon have been stood down.
