Sales assistant punched in face

A WOOLWORTHS assistant suffered injuries to his face when he was assaulted by a would-be robber in the Chatham High Street store.

The 23-year-old sales assistant was left with cuts, bruises and swelling to his face, after the attempted robbery in a store room.

The incident happened 10 days ago, between 5.30pm and 5.46pm on Friday, May 6, but details have only just been released by police.

A Medway Police spokesman said: “The sales assistant had gone into a back room when he was confronted by a man who was walking towards him pushing an empty trolley. The assistant tried to turn around but the offender pushed him against a wall and began punching and kicking him.

“Afterwards, the offender picked up a box which may have contained DVDs, and escaped through the fire exit.”
