Satisfactory end to bomb scare at bakery

RESIDENTS were evacuated from their homes this afternoon following a bomb scare in a bakery.

The Bakery, in College Road, Hextable, near Swanley, was at the centre of a police cordon after the alert was given at about 12.35pm.

It was reported that a package with wires sticking out had been found at the premises.

Most of College Road became a no-go area as a large-scale police and bomb squad operation swung into action.

But at around 3.35pm officers established the package as non-suspicious and the roads were re-opened.

Staff and pupils Hextable Junior School had earlier been advised to make use of alternative routes from the area.
