An Island entertainer has made it through to the semi-finals of a national talent search competition.

Dave Peters, from Minster, has been performing his act, which includes an Elvis tribute, for more than 20 years.

He performs material from the '50s – '80s and for the last two years, has been entertaining pensioners as Elvis at their Christmas party in Leysdown.

As well as performing on the Island, Mr Peters has appeared in venues all round the country.

After seeing an advert online, Mr Peters, 46, entered the UK Unsigned talent search in Weymouth, where he performed a rendition of American Trilogy.

He recently found out he had got through his heat in the covers singers category, and will be competing in the semifinal in Dartford in June.

If he is successful and wins his heat at the semis, Mr Peters could go on to perform in the final in London.

At the final there will be recording executives and agents from the music industry.

Mr Peters said: “I didn’t expect to get through my heat, I was totally shocked but really pleased.

“I’m not thinking as far ahead as the final, I want to get through the semifinal first, but eventually I would like to get to professional standard and if I could get a recording contract, great.

“It would be nice to have some local support behind me and put the Island on the map.”

You can vote for Mr Peters to win his showcase by visiting the website at www.ukunsigned.net or by texting UKU(space)DAVE PETERS to 60777. Texts cost 50p plus standard operator charge.
