Gills manager Mark Stimson is backing star striker Simeon Jackson to end his lean scoring run.

The Canadian international has not scored for three matches but has not gone without a goal in four successive games all season.

Stimson said: “The law of averages says he is due a goal and nobody will be trying harder to get one than him.

“A lot of it is down to supply and if we supply him enough he will come up with the goods.”

Jackson bagged a hat-trick against Swindon on the first day of the season and has 13 goals to his name so far.

Stimson added: “In the last game, he was making great movement and the players put the ball into the right areas. If we do that again, he can exploit them and people just need to be aware of where he is.”

Stimson also believes the heightened speculation surrounding Jackson is not affecting him.

Southampton are the latest club linked to the signing of Jackson but Stimson said: “It can affect you but I’ve had a chat with him and he’s fine about all of the speculation.

"If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen and he’s done his bit. He just needs to keep his focus."
