Small fire aboard freight ferry

FIRE crews last night fought a small blaze on board a cross-Channel freight ferry docked in Ramsgate harbour.

The alarm was raised shortly before 8pm and firefighters wearing specialist breathing equipment boarded the Primrose to tackle the fire in the seventh floor workshop.

A fire brigade spokesman said: “The fire damaged about 25 square meters of lagging near the base of the funnel.

“Meanwhile, other crews were engaged in boundary cooling on the eighth floor and checking for hotspots using a thermal imaging camera.

“With the fire finally extinguished and cooling completed, the crews eventually left the harbour around midnight. There were no reports of any injuries.”
