Star Stage School in Margate is the latest winner of the Chandlers Building Supplies Community Fund, supported by the Thanet Extra.

The group was delighted to be presented with a cheque for £500 which they are going to use to buy new costumes for their upcoming show -- Summer Show 2010 -- at the Winter Gardens in July.

Star Stage School's Karen Tarbuck said: "The show at the Winter Gardens is our biggest show to date and we would like to thank everyone that voted for us and Chandlers for the wonderful donation, which will ensure that everyone looks fantastic on the night."

From now until the end of the year Chandlers will be donating £500 every month to a local charity, group or organisation that needs some support. The details of three nominations will be printed in the Thanet Extra each month for the readers to decide who will receive the donation.

This month's nominations are:

St Ethelbert's Catholic Primary School

Having been a primary school in Ramsgate since 1963, the pupils at St Ethelbert's would like to brighten up the front of their building by growing flowers, fruit and vegetables. The St Ethelbert's Eco-School Pupil Council has already raised money to buy flower planters for the two junior playgrounds at the school to enhance the environment.

Should St Ethelbert's be successful in winning the Community Fund they would use the £500 to buy plants, tools and a shed, which would then help to start a gardening club.

Headway

Local charity Headway was formed in 1989 in response to the lack of services for people who have survived an injury to the brain. Their day care centres, situated across East Kent, are long term, low cost activity therapy centres providing advice and support at all stages.

The majority of money needed to maintain the centres is gained through fundraising. The Community Fund donation would contribute towards the cost of refurbishing a kitchen where clients are encouraged to make light lunches for themselves.

The Dane Area Action Group (DAAG)

DAAG was formed in 2004 to allow the community to bring their concerns to the local council. The first issue addressed, and one that they continue to battle, is to try and prevent the council from selling off their small local car park, which would leave residents with no car parking facility. They have successfully achieved new road signs on lampposts, new road lighting, replacement of missing street names and new road markings.

If successful the money would enable them to clean the alleyway and complete the running repairs to the alley gates, cover their annual insurance and ensure that their newsletter can continue to be produced and distributed to the residents.

To place your vote simply email chandlersthanet@pmwcom.co.uk with the name of the project you want to win in the subject box, or alternatively call Sally Bason on 01403 783400. Voting will close on Wednesday May 26 at 5.30pm.

If you are a local group that could do with some help, it’s not too late to send a nomination to Chandlers Thanet Community Fund, c/o PMW Communications, Stane Court, Stane Street, Billingshurst, West Sussex, RH14 9HP.
