Stefan Payne continued his impressive goalscoring form for Gillingham reserves with a double at Priestfield on Tuesday afternoon.

The young striker scored the opening goal of the Central Division fixture against Wycombe Wanderers which Gillingham won 3-1. He headed home Tom Brunt’s cross with 48 minutes gone.

Gillingham’s second came from the penalty spot. Payne was pulled down in the area and Mark McCammon, who had earlier received treatment to a gashed head, stepped up to make it 2-0.

Wycombe pulled a goal back with eight minutes left but a well taken goal from Payne restored the two goal advantage. It made it five goals for Payne in the last four reserve outings.

Also included in the Gills line-up were senior pros Lance Cronin and Josh Gowling.

Gills: Cronin, Brunt, Brown, Gowling, Essam, Fisher (Benniman 66mins), Inkango, Rooney (Davies 59mins), McCammon (Humber 75mins), S Payne, White. Subs: Hawkes.
