Highways officials were faced with a sticky situation when a lorry spilled syrup across a busy Kent road.

The 44-tonne truck leaked its load as it travelled along the A20 at Barrow Hill, Sellindge, shortly before 3am this morning.

The spillage closed the Ashford-bound carriageway for much of the day, although the road was passable with care on the opposite side.

Temporary traffic lights were installed this afternoon while officials continued to clean up the goo, allowing vehicles to pass the scene in both directions.

No delays were reported.
