Talking point: Abortion and a woman's right to choose

Women should not have to get permission from two doctors before having an abortion.

That's the view of a group of experts calling for a change in the abortion laws to give women a greater freedom of choice.

In a letter to The Times, the group of 85 medical law and ethics specialists argue the current rule - which means women have to get signed approval from two doctors - is outdated.

Trained nurses should also be allowed to carry out abortions, according to the academics.
