Country music legend Tammy Wynette plays an unlikely starring role in a new fire safety campaign launched in Kent.

Kent Fire and Rescue has launched a short online film - Stand By Your Pan - urging people not to cook while drunk.

It includes a re-written version of the classic song Stand By Your Man. Tammy Wynette's estate had to give special permission for the song to be used, and are understood to have approved of its new message.

The video features a drunk man returning home and cooking bacon in a pan, before falling asleep on the sofa as flames rage in the kitchen.

From out of the smoke appear two singing "fire angels", who launch into a verse and chorus of the country song much to the surprise of the dreaming drunkard.

KFRS’s head of community safety, Stuart Skilton, said: “Unfortunately, fire angels don’t actually exist - if you’re asleep and a fire breaks out, you’re in serious trouble. Just a couple of breaths of fire smoke can be enough to knock you completely unconscious.

“Leaving cooking unattended is often a recipe for disaster, and if you’ve been drinking you’re even more vulnerable."

The video is becoming a cult hit on YouTube, with viewers from Canada and North America. It is understood that firefighters in Nashville, Tennessee - in Tammy Wynette's heartland - are interested in using the video.
