A teenager has spoken about the road accident which left her friend fighting for her life.

Kerri Deakin and Charlotte Olde, both 14, were making their way home from the Hundred of Hoo school when they were hit by a Vauxhall Vectra.

The accident happened at the crossing on Four Elms Hill, Chattenden, at 4.45pm on Friday last week . Kerri suffered minor injuries but Charlotte was left in a critical condition.

Kerri, of Lodge Hill Lane, Chattenden, said: “The green man had come on so we started to cross but then I saw a car coming up the road quite quickly. It didn’t look like he was going to stop. He hit both of us.

“My leg and my back hurt but I was able to get up and run over to Charlotte. I called the police and the ambulance, and a man stopped to help us.”

Kerri’s mum Sharon, 37, added: “I want to say thank you to the people who stopped at the scene to help.”

The girls were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital but later Charlotte was transferred to King’s College Hospital, London.

Charlotte underwent an emergency operation to remove a clot on her brain. Doctors told her family she could have been left paralysed or unable to speak properly.

Charlotte went home on Wednesday night but her family has been warned she will have to take her recovery slowly.
