Review: I, Superbiker, Bluewater Showcase Cinema, Tuesday, February 21

By Jim Yarwood

The recently-released I, Superbiker premiered last week at the Bluewater. It centres around last year's British Superbike Series (BSB) culminating in the shoot-out at Brands Hatch, last October, where the top six riders vyed to win the premier two-wheeled championship.

It culminated with Edenbridge's Tommy Hill - riding a Swan Yamaha - clashing with American ex-MotoGP rider John Hopkins in the closeset-ever finish recorded. Hill won by six-thousands of a second as they crossed the line to take the chequered flag and the championship, just rewards for Hill as he lost it by two points in 2010.

The film is well edited and put together with real-time TV coverage blending in brilliantly with film being shot taking in the background drama in the pits as the seasons' races unfold.

Using the TV commentary and pulsating background music to the visual works really well, there's also interviews and thoughts from the riders as they approach the season finale.

It's possibly not a film if you're unfamiliar with the UK bike racing scene, but it's not short on drama, spills and nail-biting overtaking.

Don't for a moment think it's a low budget film either, no expense was spared in bringing this sporting drama to the wide screen and it follows hot on the heels of the successful "Closer to the Edge" movie featuring the TT racing from the Isle of Man in 2010 - filmed in 3-D.

The British series is gaining massive support with world-class riders attracted to ride the 200+bhp bikes at speeds in excess of 170mph in weather conditions that only the UK has to offer.

If you're an adrenalin junkie this is a must to view!

The films goes on general release from March 1.
