Tragedy after bike and tractor collide

KENT Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist died following a collision with a tractor.

The 49-year-old rider was thrown from his 1200cc Yamaha after it hit a Massey Ferguson tractor and trailer that police say was pulling out of a farm entrance on the main route between Margate and Broadstairs at St Peter’s Road.

The victim lived in Broadstairs. He has not yet been named.

Officers from the serious collision unit are investigating the accident that happened shortly after 4pm on Saturday. The motorcyclist was taken to the Queen Mother Hospital at Margate but died later.

A police spokesman said: "His family have been informed and they are understandly extremely distressed. The driver of the tractor was shocked but unhurt in the collision."
