A YOUNG bride widowed just months after her wedding has spoken about the loss of her one-in-a-million husband.

Teresa, 21, from Strood, married 26-year-old Stephen Chester, on May 28. But their married life was tragically cut short when Stephen died, two weeks ago, of a heart problem that he had been living with throughout his life.

Teresa said: "There aren’t really any words to describe how much I loved him and how kind, wonderful and amazing he was. He had always had a heart problem but lived life to the full and never let his condition stop him from doing anything."

The couple lived together in Hawthorn Road, Strood, having met two years ago when they were both working as bar staff at the Corn Exchange in Rochester. It was there that he popped the question.

She said: "He came in with a bunch of flowers and a ring and said, ‘So what do you think?’

"I pretended I didn’t know what he meant. He really was one-in-a-million, always laughing and enjoying himself.

"We had known each other for just less than two years before we married and held our reception at the place at which we met. It all happened so quickly. We just fell in love.

"He seemed fine, even on the morning of the day he died, which was also the day on which I had started a new job. I had a phone call from him at about 8.30am, saying he had a pain in his chest. He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, where they tried to resuscitate him."

Stephen, who worked as a night porter, had one sister, Tracey, 25. He loved computers, DVDs and videos and liked to listen to country music.

Three weeks before his death he bought a new motorbike.

The funeral service will be taking place on Wednesday (November 9) at Frindsbury Baptist Church, at 10.30am. Any donations should be given to the British Heart Foundation.
