Tragic death of ex-Royal Navy man

A keen woodworker accidentally sawed off his own hand, then went out into the garden and hanged himself, an inquest has heard.

Robert “Bobby” Harvey, 80, had reportedly been in good spirits when he said goodbye to his niece at the home they shared just outside Maidstone.

But later that day, Mr Harvey was found hanging from the gazebo in his garden, with his left hand lying severed in his workshop.

Coroner Roger Sykes described it as “a most tragic set of circumstances”.
