It has been a day of fresh misery on Kent's railways, with all trains cancelled between several towns in the county after an icy evening.

Trains from Ashford to Folkestone and Dover were cancelled in the morning after another overnight freeze, while buses have been serving Sheppey.

Services from Ashford International to London were reduced to a limited number of trains to St Pancras and many other trains were delayed.

A spokesman for Southeastern said: "Ice is still affecting the conductor rails on the tracks and it is better to cancel services rather than leave people stranded between stations."

Southeastern provided a shuttle service from Ashford to Maidstone but the Ashford to Canterbury East trains were running as normal.

As of 6pm:

  • Buses replace trains between Sheerness and Sittingbourne
  • Long delays after a signalling problem near Orpington, but trains are calling there and at Sevenoaksagain
  • Several trains to and from Cannon Streetcancelled

Passengers should log on to Southeastern's website for updated information.

Yesterday's running of a Saturday service on a Tuesday attracted provoked much debate on the KentOnline message boards here.

One group of passengers became so fed up with the timetable changes and the impact of the weather, they launched a petition on the 10 Downing Street website, here.
