A FAMILY has paid tribute to a businessman known for his love of antiques and all things second-hand who suddenly collapsed and died.

Paul Whiteman, 49, of Beacon Road, Chatham, was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

His funeral will take place at 11.40am on Tuesday, January 16, at Medway Crematorium. The funeral procession, led by a horse-drawn carriage, will leave 11, Penfold Close, Princes Park, Walderslade, at 10am. Flowers can be sent to Button and Family funeral directors, 417-419 High Street, Chatham.

For five years Mr Whiteman ran Chatham Antiques in the Luton area of the town and he was a familiar face on the local boot fair scene.

He was an avid banger-racer and often took part in local events, including ones for charity.

During his lifetime he did lots of fund-raising. His family have asked for donations to be given to Demelza House Children’s Hospice in his memory.

Sister-in-law, Michelle Richardson, said: “He was a fantastic father and husband. He did wonderful things for his children and he always put them first. He was a lovely man and very well known in the area.”

Mr Whiteman died after collapsing with a heart attack while visiting friends in Margate on New Year’s Eve.
