Twice-cancelled cancer op man 'doing well'

A CANCER patient whose surgery was cancelled twice in eight days is recovering after it finally went ahead.

Ian Henshaw, 59, from East Brabourne, near Ashford, had his operation last Thursday. He was orginally meant to have surgery for cancer of the oesophagus on October 15 at Maidstone Hospital.

His daughter Kate said: "He is still in intensive care but he is doing well. He is expected to come out of hospital by the end of this week."

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust said this happened because there were not enough critical care nurses available on those two occasions.

The trust said it wished to apologise to the family but stressed that the operations were not cancelled due to lack of funds.
